I Stopped Trusting My IDE to Fix My Code, Here's What Changed

I was deep in a production refactor last month when I realized something uncomfortable: I'd been asking my IDE's AI assistant to make changes across fifteen files without actually understanding the cascade of consequences. The tool was fast, confident, and mostly right. But "most...

Microsoft's AI Push Is Real, But I'm Not Betting My Stack on It Yet

Last month, I spent two days migrating a client's infrastructure off a single cloud provider because we hit an unexpected scaling limit during peak traffic. The irony? We'd chosen that provider partly because their AI tooling looked promising. Now I'm watching Microsoft tout mult...

I Stopped Pretending Kubernetes Is Just About Running Containers at Scale

Two years ago, I deployed my first "production" Kubernetes cluster. It was a disaster waiting to happen, and it didn't even know it. I had pods running, services routing traffic, and everything *looked* fine until 3 AM when a memory leak took down half the cluster because I never...

I Gave Away My Code for Free, And Watched Someone Else Get Rich From It

Last year, I open-sourced a utility library that solved a real problem I'd been wrestling with in production. The documentation was solid, the code was clean, and I released it under MIT because that's what developers do, right? We share. We build in public. We contribute to the...

I've Been Sleeping on Network Protocols While My GPUs Burn Money

Last month, I got pulled into a late-night Slack thread about our training jobs taking longer than expected. My colleague casually mentioned switching from TCP to something called Homa, and I had the embarrassing realization that I'd been treating network transport as a black box...

Stop Fighting CI/CD Logs Like a Caveman: Let Claude Do the Archaeology

Three months ago, I spent ninety minutes debugging a GitHub Actions failure that turned out to be a missing `s3:GetObject` permission in an IAM role. Ninety minutes. The actual fix was changing one line in a Terraform policy document. I scrolled through what felt like ten thousan...

I'm Done Betting On "Enterprise" Secrets Managers For Small Teams

Six months ago, I spent three days setting up HashiCorp Vault for a four-person team. We spent another week writing deployment scripts, managing encryption keys, and debugging authentication flows. By month two, nobody could remember how to rotate a key without breaking staging....

The Day I Realized My CI/CD Pipeline Was Quietly Bleeding Money

I spent three years assuming my deployment infrastructure was someone else's problem. I'd push code to GitHub, a pipeline would spin up somewhere in the cloud, and a few minutes later my app was live. It felt magical. It wasn't until I joined a team where the DevOps costs were ac...

I've Used All Three, and Here's What I Actually Recommend (It's Not What You Think)

I remember the exact moment our infrastructure decision became a problem. We were three months into a greenfield AWS project, our CloudFormation templates were pushing 2,000 lines of YAML, and I was debugging a cryptic error message that looked like it was generated by aliens. A...

I Let An AI Agent Delete My Files, So Now I'm Obsessed With Permission Systems

I've been building with AI SDKs for about two years now, and I've noticed something that keeps me up at night: we're shipping agents with tool access like we're shipping regular API endpoints. No friction, no hesitation, just `execute()` and pray. Last week, I read about someone...
